Marijuana comprises the dried leaves, stems and flowers of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. At recreational doses, effects of the drug include mood alteration, euphoria, relaxation, altered time / space perception, impaired memory, sedation and changes in sensory perception. The cannabis plant contains active constituents which have been shown to have pain relieving, anti-nausea and appetite-stimulating effects. Cannabis contains chemicals called cannabinoids, including cannabinol, cannabidiol, cannabinolidic acids, cannabigerol, cannabichromene, and several isomers of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). One of these isomers, Δ 9-THC, is responsible for most of the characteristic psychoactive effects of cannabis.
