Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) listed five new psychoactive substances(NPS) including U-47700 to the Class A controlled drugs list in 2017. It is therefore now an offence to traffic, import, export, manufacture or consume these drugs.
In a recent report by The Straits Times, some new psychoactive substances are being disguised as tobacco. The tobacco has been adulterated or diluted with NPS and other substances such as contact cement and thinner. The effects of thinner can cause poisoning when ingested, inhaled or consumed. CNB have reminded the public that abusing new psychoactive substances can be extremely dangerous, with unknown chemical compounds being added that can cause serious health problems such as seizures, renal failure, intoxication or death.
